Story[]

In the reception lobby, Valerie meets a woman who has an appointment with Dr. Rousseau. She introduces herself as Irene Quatro, the director of Caduceus, and Valerie gets her in contact with Rousseau's secretary. Irene also wants to meet with Professor Wilkens, but he is currently unavailable.

As Valerie and Markus discuss Wilkens's intentions, Elena bursts in, calling them to the operating room. Three people were involved in a car accident - Rousseau started treating the one who's most injured, but has then entrusted that patient to the team after going to treat someone else. Markus and Valerie prepare for an immediate emergency procedure.

After a successful operation, Irene enters the operating room, scrubbed in and ready to assist, but is relieved that the team has already handled the situation. She is impressed with the doctors' skills and their Healing Touch, and hopes that they meet again. Markus is a little apprehensive of this.

Back in the lobby, Rousseau is speaking with the patient's wife, having taken credit for the operation. Valerie is upset, but Markus reminds her that saving the patient's life is more important. Professor Wilkens is distrustful of Rousseau given his behavior, and this is his reason for choosing Markus as his surgeon. He has also finally decided on the date of his Stigma operation, and sets up a meeting for the next day to discuss it.

Conference[]

Briefing Dialogue
The patient is Ricardo Garcia, a 35-year-old male. He was in a car accident. He has injuries to the abdomen, including a few broken ribs and a pierced spleen.
This doesn't look good...
In this operation, we have several objectives...We need to treat his lacerations, repair his broken ribs, and attend to his spleen.
This'll be a difficult operation. No wonder Rousseau took off so fast.
Well, I'm sure we can handle it.
We've analyzed his blood type and done the necessary screening and cross-matching. We've also got an ample supply of blood on hand. All you need to worry about is the operation.
[Selection: Markus Vaughn]
All right, let's begin the operation!
[Selection: Valerie Blaylock]
I'm ready to start the procedure.

Operation[]

As Rousseau has already started but left midway, you begin right in the field, over the patient's shattered ribcage and spleen.

Right off the bat, the patient's in cardiac arrest. Resuscitate with the defibrillator before proceeding. You are then introduced to the large laceration. Drain the blood pooling inside, close with the forceps, and suture. Make sure you do this quickly or the wound will reopen.

Your next step is to extract the bone fragments from the spleen and suture up the wounds left behind. Don't rush this, though, because with each step, new wounds will form on the spleen. Drain off any blood pools and stitch up any new lacerations that form along the way. Mind the patient's vitals as it can plummet during this part of the operation, and the maximum of 45 leaves you with little room for error.

Once you've extracted all the bone fragments, reposition them on the ribcage, twisting the Wiimote to get them in the right orientation. You may notice you're missing a fragment - this is also when the patient goes into cardiac arrest for the second time. Resuscitate him, and the final bone fragment will reveal itself alongside a lot of lacerations and bleeding. Carefully treat the surrounding wounds before extracting and replacing the last bone fragment. Seal everything with antibiotic gel and finish the operation.

Getting XS[]

Vitals are prone to plummeting a lot in this operation, and you only have a vital cap of 45 to work with, so you really need to be quick with treatment. Consider using your Healing Touch after the second defib due to the low vitals and numerous wounds you're handling. Valerie's Healing Touch gives you a better safety net against the high vital damage, while Markus's gives you the windows you need to back yourself up with stabilizer doses. The defib bonus is very stringent here - you need to get a perfect defibrillation at least once during the operation. Practice the timing with the defibrillation at the start of the operation, and restart if you don't get it on the first go.
