Story[]
Irene calls Markus and Valerie to a meeting. She shows them an episode of a popular show, Wish Come True: Miracle Surgery, hosted by Guy Davidson and featuring Leonardo Bello. The show promises free surgery in exchange for the patients consenting to have their operations televised.
Irene urges them to continue watching to the point where Leonardo discusses the flaws of the healthcare system, and he claims that Caduceus is not doing enough to justify receiving their $300 million portion of the government budget. Valerie is outraged, but Markus is confident that Leonardo would be proven wrong eventually. Irene agrees with Markus's stance, but she has orders from the Secretary of Health and Welfare to "crush them", thus she's asked Markus and Valerie to appear on TV . The team reluctantly agrees to it, and the station promises to cancel the show if Leonardo's claims are disproven. The rest of the staff cheers on the team, though Dr. Tsuji warns them to be cautious, as she's well aware of his skills from her time in medical school.
The team appears on the show to a lukewarm reception. They are introduced to their patient — one who's been suffering from tumors in his stomach with complications to his heart and lungs. Despite their drain malfunctioning midway, they complete the procedure. Leonardo comes in, boasting that he could have done it better, and goads the team into a surgery competition.

Operation[]
While this seems like a simple tumor operation, things are scripted to complicate quickly. Start with extracting the tumors in your initial operating field. Once done, the patient will start hemorrhaging, and you're given the magnifier to look around. Drain off the blood pools as they will obscure your vision and interfere with tumor extraction.
With the third phase, things get messy as your drain is rendered temporarily unavailable. You have no choice but to hold out and maintain the patient's vitals until Elena fetches a new one. The patient will quickly undergo cardiac arrest, and you'll have to resuscitate with a cardiac massage. Once you've regained full control, clean up the remaining blood pools and finish tumor extraction to complete the procedure, and be aware of subsequent fibrillations.
Special Bonuses[]
- No mistakes: x1.3
- Completed with [80/100/110] left: x1.2
- MAX CHAIN of at least [120/180/190]: x1.2
- [5/10/12] COOL's earned: x1.3
Operation Rank[]
Rank | Easy | Normal | Hard |
---|---|---|---|
C | <4200 | <6200 | <7800 |
B | 4200~4399 | 6200~6499 | 7800~7799 |
A | 4400~4599 | 6500~6699 | 8000~8299 |
S | ≥4600 | ≥6700 | 8300~8499 |
XS | - | - | ≥8500 |
Getting XS[]
You'll practically need an unbroken Chain and COOL's on nearly all tumor excisions to get the bonuses. Remember that if you take too long between draining away a tumor's cytoplasm and cutting it out, the cytoplasm can spill out again and break the Chain. After you've recovered from the broken drain and restarted the patient's heart, use either Healing Touch to give you the edge to finish the procedure quickly - Markus's will buy you a lot of extra time, while Valerie's lets you focus exclusively on extraction without needing to reach for the stabilizer.
