Story[]

Professor Wilkens is brought to Caduceus USA, and scans have found an electrical device implanted into his brain that's caused his change in behavior. Dr. Everett suggests that the device manipulates him through suggestion which allows Wilkens to continue his work on Stigma while under its effects. Between the staff, Wilkens's family and the authorities, there is a unanimous decision to remove the device to revert him to his old personality.

Markus enters Wilkens's room and tries to learn of the surgeon who implanted the device, but Wilkens is unresponsive. Markus comes forth with his Stigma-related regret, and wonders if this whole situation could have been avoided had he done things differently. Wilkens pipes up, celebrating the creation of Stigma in an unnerving monotone.

Everett lays out the device's schematics, which deliver weak electrical impulses through a series of plugs to alter Wilkens's character. The operation is delicate, with each mistake posing significant danger.

Wilkens awakens after a successful operation, but he retains no memory from the point when he was kidnapped. Instead, his experiences with the Parnassus group felt more like a nightmare, and he decides to stop his research on Stigma. Meanwhile, the team is called to a discussion on the international investigation on the Stigma syndicate, with news that Cynthia will also be present.

Conference[]

Briefing Dialogue
I'll explain the situation. This operation's objective is the removal of a number of plugs from an implant in the Professor's brain. This complex device releases a weak electrical current that can modify a person's personality. The plugs transmit that current to a specific section of nerves in the brain.
...I can't believe that Kidman and his group were capable of creating something like this.
Nor can I. This isn't a device that can be handled with the equipment we've seen in their possession. Needless to say, it would require advanced equipment as well as skill to implant something like this. Extracting the plugs will be a difficult task, but I've told Elena the operational procedure. This goes without saying, but working on the brain carries a great risk. You must work with the utmost care to prevent minimal aftereffects to the Professor's brain.
That's what I have in mind.
We must succeed with this operation. A device like that...It shouldn't exist.
Please, prepare for the procedure.
[Selection: Markus Vaughn]
We can't make any mistakes...Let's begin the operation!
[Selection: Valerie Blaylock]
We will bring him back to his old self, no matter what. Start the operation!

Operation[]

There are three stages to the operation. Markus's Healing Touch works wonders for finding openings for precise maneuvers, while Valerie's will keep any mistakes from being too dangerous to the patient.

First is to put the device into sleep mode - use the forceps to extract the three electrical chips from the center of the device. Note the presence of sparks - contact with any one of them will count as a mistake and cause great vital damage. There aren't a lot of sparks right now and they move very slowly, so you have a lot of leeway to extract them.

Once the device is opened you have to extract the pins. Each one will glow to show their activity - you can't touch a glowing pin or that counts as a mistake. The pins are of different lengths that aren't revealed to you until you extract them, and shorter pins stay lit for shorter lengths of time. There is also a lull in activity where no pins are lit. Extract all five pins to proceed to the final stage of the operation.

You now have to close up the device and reset its activity by replacing the chips. However, there are more sparks circulating its perimeter which will make it tougher than the previous stage. One of the sparks will even home in on your cursor as you transport the chip. Act quickly, and once the final chip is replaced, the operation is complete.

The time bonuses can be pretty tight, and without the aid of the Healing Touch, your best bet is to practice.
