Seeking Atonement is the fifth Forensics level in Trauma Team.
Story[]
Opening[]
After the explosion of her house, a mortally wounded Alyssa is taken to Resurgam by helicopter. At Resurgam, Naomi is sitting in the hall, grieving for Alyssa. Her phone suddenly goes off, signifying Alyssa's death, but Naomi pleads for her to live.
Investigation[]
This is a continuation of Crime of Passion. When we left off, we learned that Stephen Eldred was the Revolutionary, but not the Raging Bomber. Further evidence is gleaned from the fact that the Bomber targeted Naomi after Stephen's death. This delivery is believed to lead back to the Bomber. Naomi thinks the Bomber may have been found already. Quiz: "From the information we have, the person most likely to be the Raging Bomber is..." Answer: "Deliverywoman". Quiz 2: "The evidence for the idea that the deliverywoman is the Bomber is..." Answer: "Carbon dust". Quiz 3: "The Bomber was able to keep his or her identity hidden by using..." Answer: "The Revolutionary". Quiz 4: "The Bomber used the Revolutionary to divert our suspicions because..." Answer: "His voice was unprocessed". Quiz 5: "Which of these questions about the Raging Bomber's activities is still unanswered?" Answer: "Why was the Revolutionary killed?" Naomi will ask Little Guy to seek out the source of Stephen's income, and will return to his room.
When you get there, look for the doormat. It's hard to distinguish among the damage, but the doormat has footprints on it. Examine the pattern for any female shoes among them. Using aluminum powder will uncover a long black human hair. The delivery form is on the floor nearby.
Analyze the footprint you found. It's 27 centimeters long, so it came from a person between 170 and 180 centimeters tall. That fits the woman who delivered the bomb to Naomi. The shoe that made the print is sold at over 100 stores. Cards obtained: "Shoe Stores" and "Deduced Height". Analyze the hair as well. The hair is revealed to be a red hair dyed black with a temporary coloring agent. Quiz: "If the hair found in the Revolutionary's room came from the Raging Bomber, the reason it was colored would be..." Answer: "The natural color stands out". Analyze the delivery form found in his room as well. One set of fingerprints on it belonged to him, the other is unknown. Card obtained: "Delivery Form Fingerprints". Compare it to the other delivery form. The fingerprints on them each contain the same set. Quiz: "Two sets of fingerprints were found on the delivery receipts. One was from the recipient, and the other was..." Answer: "The person who delivered it". Quiz 2: "Considering the fingerprints on the delivery receipt, the person who delivered the bomb to the Revolutionary was..." Answer: "Deliverywoman who was at CIFM". Next, we hear that there is no such delivery worker in the area, or any records of a package being sent to Naomi. The fingerprints also could not be identified. Quiz 3: "The Raging Bomber hid her identity by using..." Answer: "The Revolutionary". She sent the packages using the names of those close to the victims. All the bombs were set to explode when they were closest to the victim. Quiz 4: "The explosives sent by the Bomber all went off in close proximity to the target. The detonation was caused by..." Answer: "Opening the package's lid". Quiz 5: "The bomb sent to CIFM was on a timer. Why would the Bomber use that?" Answer: "Anticipating heavy security". At this point, we can't say for sure if the woman was the Bomber or not. Little Guy then intervenes and tells us that large deposits were made to Stephen's account, which coincided with the bomb threats. The first three were each for $5000, and the last for $10000. That would have to be the final bomb threat, which was aimed at him. Try comparing this card to the reason he was killed. Quiz: "The person depositing large sums of money into Stephen's account was..." Answer: "The Raging Bomber". Quiz 2: "In exchange for the money, the Raging Bomber paid Stephen to..." Answer: "Make bomb threats". Quiz 3: "The Bomber's last deposit to the Revolutionary was different than the others because..." Answer: "It was a lot more money". Quiz 4: "It seems that the last of the payments to the Revolutionary was higher because..." Answer: "He blackmailed the Bomber". Quiz 5: "The reason why the Revolutionary demanded a higher payment was..." Answer: "To pay back loans". Quiz 6: "The Bomber made one payment at the increased amount. The reason for this was..." Answer: "To pay him for another threat". After this, Little Guy will contact us with the news that the deposits were made from Higgins Beach. Solid Evidence obtained: "Blackmail Response". Card obtained: "Higgins Beach Deposits". Compare that with the number of shoe stores that sold her brand of shoes. Quiz: "The locations of the bank used by the Bomber and the store that sold the Bomber's shoes tell us that..." Answer: "The shoe store has to be checked". With that in mind, we can narrow down the shoe store. Asking Little Guy about it will reveal that there is only one shoe store in the area with the right brand of shoes. Quiz: "From the information we have, can we tell which gender the Raging Bomber is?" Answer: "She's a woman". Quiz 2: "From the information we have, can we tell how old the Raging Bomber is?" Answer: "Unknown". Quiz 3: "From the information we have, can we tell the Raging Bomber's nationality?" Answer: "Unknown". Quiz 4: "From the information we have, can we tell how tall the Raging Bomber is?" Answer: "170-180 cm". Quiz 5: "From the information we have, is there anything else we can say about the Raging Bomber?" Answer: "Has red hair". Answering all of these will reveal the Bomber's true identity: Sandra Lieberman. Solid Evidence obtained: "Finding the Suspect".
Raging Bomber's House[]
In order to confront the Bomber, we travel to her house, where we are locked in a bedroom. A recorded message begins to taunt Naomi, telling her that there are four bombs on a table in the room, primed to explode in ten minutes. In order to disarm them, she must call the cell phones attached with the right combination of numbers. A hint to each one will be in the room. The first one is in the message.
"The first bomb's hint is those letters nearby. Try to turn 'KQJQ' into an eight-digit number. Don't get it? Close the curtains and think slowly." When we try to take this advice, we see that the curtains are patterned with cards. The solution is to remember how many points each card is worth. King is worth 13 points, Queen is worth 12, and Jack is worth 11. The answer is 13121112.
"Let's get to the second bomb. Here's another hint for you. I've tried to deactivate it from a phone in this room once. That's my hint. I've left an essential question on the mirror. I hope you come to see it, too." There is a clue hidden in the mirror; dust it with aluminum powder. The following message will be revealed: "The sum of the first four is five. They are led by the largest. The sum of the last four is eleven. The smallest leads. What are they?" This is a math puzzle with no obvious solution at first, until you use the aluminum powder on the phone. This will reveal the only buttons the Bomber pushed to deactivate the bomb: 1, 2, and 3. The answer is 21112333.
"The next hint is scattered about the room... like the stars themselves. Could you find all of them? Think about how they're arranged, as well." To get this one, study the poster of the solar system on the wall. Beside the name of each planet is its astronomical symbol. Using the luminol and ALS all around the room will reveal all eight symbols, each with a number next to it. The solution is to input the numbers in the order of the planets matching the symbols nearby. The answer is 34158693.
"But how about the last problem? I'll test your calculation skills. Imagine two rows of numbers, similar, yet different. 7 on one side is 1 on the other. 3 on one side is 9 on the other. But 5 remains 5. Now, then... What would '8947 6231' be?" In order to solve this, notice the calculator next to the cell phone on the table. Examining the buttons closely, you realize that the rows of numbers on the calculator are swapped for the phone, with the middle row staying the same. The answer is 23416897.
Once all four bombs are deactivated, the Bomber will send you a congratulations and allow you to leave. Naomi immediately mistrusts the message and continues looking around. On the bed is another teddy bear with a hidden, fifth bomb inside, along with a piece of paper with a hint at disarming it. The yellow wire on the bomb must be cut to disarm it.
Ending[]
Little Guy will call Naomi with the urgent message that the Bomber is on the move. From her message, we believe her next target to be the visiting First Lady. Naomi arrives at the airport to find the Bomber holding the First Lady hostage. Recognizing Naomi, she suddenly goes crazy and reveals bandoliers of "Rosalia", which she intends to use to kill everyone. As she laughs maniacally, she suddenly begins bleeding from every opening and convulsing, dropping her transceiver, which detonates the bomb nearby. Among the wreckage, Naomi wonders what this "Rosalia" is.
Trivia[]
- Although the Bomber's message mentions a time limit, there is no such limit in the game.
