The Trace is the fifth episode of the fifth chapter of Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2.

Story

Weeks have passed since Mayuzumi's abduction but no leads have been found. Even the assailant who Derek previously saved is not in a good condition to talk, and he's been showing signs of arrhythmia and might need a pacemaker.

Detective Buckley offers to implant a pacemaker with a tracking device and then release the patient, so that the assailant can lead the police force right to the Delphi headquarters. Derek is opposed to this, but Buckley informs him that Delphi has started making big demands with Mayuzumi as their hostage. Sidney negotiates a compromise - the assailant gets released for 24 hours, and if the police can't get any important information from his movements, Caduceus gets to bring him back in for monitoring.

Following a successful operation, the patient escapes and the police are tracking him as planned. Sidney reassures Derek that while their actions would normally be deplorable, Caduceus is effectively at war with Delphi and GUILT, and they will need to do anything possible to prevent further instances of medical terrorism.

Conference

Briefing Dialogue I'm going to get started with the briefing. For this operation, we'll be implanting a pacemaker in the patient's chest. His condition remains unstable, due to the weakening of his heart caused by the chest injury. The pacemaker we'll be putting in should remedy this. There is only one objective for this operation: - Implant the pacemaker and activate it. Needless to say, this operation puts the patient's life at great risk. His cardiopulmonary functions have already gotten weaker, so if any problems arise, there's a high possibility he could go into cardiac arrest. Please be extremely careful. I understand. Let's begin the operation!

Operation

This is a pacemaker insertion operation. Angie will outline the steps - just follow them and it can be completed easily.

First, position the pacemaker and attach the leads. Incise at the two connection points at the heart, drain away the blood, then use the forceps to attach the leads to the heart and suture.

The pacemaker attempts to start but the heart goes into arrest, so you'll have to restart it with a heart massage. Angie will find that the leads are faulty, so you'll have to detach the leads and swap them with proper ones. Disinfect the contact points, cut away and remove the leads, then suture the contact points. Replace the leads with new ones, ultrasound to re-discover the incision points, and then attach the new leads.
